the subject.

A verb is a word that
expresses an action or a state of being. There are two main categories of verb:
action verbs and state of being verbs (also known as linking verb). Because
action verbs and linking verbs are strong enough to be used all by themselves
in senteces, they are called main verbs. But there is also third category of
verbs which doesn’t get any glory. They are helping verbs. The reason that
these guys doesn’t get the fame that the action and linking verbs get is
because they don’t stand alone as main verbs. Helping verbs always help either
an action verb or a linking verbs.

A verb phrase is the part of a sentence containing the verb and any direct or indirect
object, but not the subject.

Traditionally, a complement
is a constituent of
a clause, such as a noun phrase or adjective phrase, that is used to predicate a
description of the subject or object of
the clause.
